Programs

Allow access for programs in the home network

This setting allows programs on the network devices installed in your home network to read and edit the settings of the FRITZ!Box. This could include the following programs, for instance:

  • FRITZ!Box AddOn for web browsers
  • FRITZ!App Fon for Smartphones
  • Configuration software from your Internet Service Provider or Internet telephony provider.
If you have protected the FRITZ!Box user interface with a FRITZ!Box password, as recommended, you have to enter this password every time you start the program before you can can use it to view or edit the settings of the FRITZ!Box. Data transmission between the FRITZ!Box and the software complies with the TR-064 standard.

Transmit status information over UPnP (recommended)

The Universal Plug & Play (UPnP) service included in your FRITZ!Box provides status information about the FRITZ!Box to all connected computers. Programs with UPnP support on these computers can receive this information and use them to display the status of the FRITZ!Box (e.g., DSL synchronization, connection status, data transmission). UPnP service thus allows you to monitor your FRITZ!Box from a connected computer.

This setting must be enabled if the FRITZ!DSL software is supposed to display status information on your computer.

Allow changes to security settings over UPnP

The Universal Plug & Play (UPnP) service available in your FRITZ!Box makes it possible to control the FRITZ!Box security settings from a connected computer.

A program with UPnP support on a connected computer tells FRITZ!Box which ports are to be enabled for port forwarding in order to allow access from the Internet to services on the computer. When the setting "Allow changes to security settings over UPnP" is activated, the FRITZ!Box automatically enables incoming connections from the Internet to be forwarded to the ports demanded by the application.

A list of the ports open via UPnP is displayed in the "Internet / Permit Access / Port Forwarding" menu.

For security reasons, only enable this option if you really want to allow incoming connections from the Internet.

Click the "Apply" button to implement your changes to the settings.
