Port Forwarding

How to configure port forwarding:

  1. In the "Port forwarding enabled for" list, select the application for which port forwarding is to be configured.
  2. In the "To computer" field, enter the name of the computer on which the application to be shared is running. Select the "Enter the IP address manually" entry if you would like to enter the computer's IP address manually.
  3. Then click "OK".

Information on the "Exposed Host" List Entry:

Port forwarding for the "Exposed Host" list entry routes all queries from the Internet to the specified computers through other port forwarding settings unless another rule is specified. This means that the FRITZ!Box firewall is no longer enabled. Configure port forwarding for the "Exposed Host" only for the purpose of testing. It is safer to set up port forwarding only for those ports that are actually required by an application.

Information for Applications Not Included in the List:

To enable an application that is not included in the list, or to enable an entire range of ports, proceed as follows:

  1. Select the "Other applications" entry from the "Port forwarding enabled for" list.
  2. In the "Name" field, enter a descriptive name for the application to be made available as a server application.
  3. Select the protocol required for the application. See the Internet pages or the FAQs of the given program to find out which protocol is suitable for the program in question.
  4. Enter in the "From port" field the port where external requests arrive, and from which they are forwarded to a computer in your LAN. This is typically the port the application "listens" to.
You can also specify a port range by entering another port in the "through port" field. In this case the application listens to the entire port range.
Each program is assigned a special port. An FTP server, for instance, uses port 21 by default. In most cases the Internet pages or the FAQs of the given application will indicate which port must be enabled for this applicatio n.
  5. Select the computer on which the application is located.
  6. Enter the IP address of the computer on which the application is located.
  7. Enter in the "To port" field the port to which the requests arriving at FRITZ!Box are to be forwarded. Again, this is typically the port the application "listens" to.
  8. Then click "OK".
