FRITZ!Box Password

Here you can protect access to the FRITZ!Box user interface by setting up a password or changing an existing password.

Here is how to set up password protection in the FRITZ!Box:

  1. Select the option "Enable password protection for this FRITZ!Box".
  2. Enter a password of your choice in the "New FRITZ!Box password" field. Confirm the password in the next input field.

Here is how to change an existing password:

  1. Enter in the the current FRITZ!Box password in the "Current FRITZ!Box password" field.
  2. Leave the option "Enable password protection for this FRITZ!Box" enabled.
  3. Enter the new password in the "New FRITZ!Box password" field. Confirm the new password by entering it again in the field below.

Note: For security reasons, the password is always displayed as four asterisks, regardless of its actual length.

The following characters can be used in the password:

  • the letters from a to z (lower case) and A to Z (upper case)
  • the numerals 0 to 9
  • spaces
  • the following special characters:
    ! " # $ % & ' ( ) * + , - . / : ; < = > ? @ [ \ ] ^ _ ` { | } ~

Attention: The special characters ß, &, colon, empty spaces, the umlauts ä, ö, ü and Ä, Ö, Ü and the accent character ´ cannot be used in the password.

You will be prompted to enter the password

  • when you want to open the user interface,
  • if you have not clicked in the user interface for longer than 10 minutes,
  • if you would like to change the password.

Please pay particular attention to the following information:

Attention 1: If you have forgotten the password, you cannot open the user interface again until the factory settings were restored to the FRITZ!Box. Resetting the box will overwrite all of your settings. Be sure to keep the password in a safe place.

Attention 2: If you do not click on the user interface for a period of longer than 10 minutes, you will be logged off the user interface automatically. You will have to enter the password again in order to log back in to the user interface. There are a few pages of the interface to which this does not apply. These are pages that display information that is constantly changing. For this reason they are refreshed automatically at regular intervals. The Overview page in the "Start Menu" area is a good example.

You can log off the user interface by clicking at the top right on "Log off" or the icon with the padlock.
