Security

On this page you select an encryption procedure to secure your radio connections.

WPA Encryption

WPA encryption currently offers the best security and thus should be selected whenever possible. Use a different cipher only if the WLAN devices you use do not support WPA.

  • WPA Mode
The "WPA + WPA2" setting automatically uses the WPA mode most suitable for your connections. In some cases it may be necessary to set a specific WPA mode for the WLAN devices used. Then simply enter the value specified by the manufacturer: "WPA (TKIP)" or "WPA2 (CCMP)".
  • WLAN key
Enter in this field the WLAN key used to secure radio connections. The WLAN key may be 8 to 63 characters in length.
For reasons of security the network key should always be at least 16 characters long. You can use the following characters in the FRITZ!Box WLAN key:
    • the letters from a to z (lower-case) and A to Z (upper-case); the use of the umlauts ä, ö, ü, Ä, Ö, Ü, and special characters such as ß is not allowed.
    • the numerals 0 to 9
    • spaces
    • the following special characters:
      ! " # $ % & ' ( ) * + , - . / : ; < = > ? @ [ \ ] ^ _ ` { | } ~

Attention The special characters ß, &, colon, empty spaces, the umlauts ä, ö, ü and Ä, Ö, Ü and the accent character ´ cannot be used in the password.

You must also enter this WLAN key in the WLAN settings of the WLAN adapter.

Click the "Apply" button to implement your changes to the settings.

Once you have clicked the "Apply" button, the "Settings for WLAN Security" window opens. All information required for the WLAN settings in the WLAN devices is summarized here. You can print out these settings.
